London Fashion Week 2023 Trends

London Fashion Week SS23 took place in September and what an event it was. New colours and upcoming designers aside, it was the last day that really took us all by surprise. In commemoration of the late Queen, all parties and dinners were cancelled and Richard Quinn’s show did an incredible job at remembering her.

Of course, there were also a few key trends that we can take from the week and I can’t wait to try and replicate them in my next set of designs. But first, I can’t not mention some of my own pieces which featured!

Katherine Elizabeth at Fashion Week

This really is a huge pinch-me moment and I can’t quite believe that some of my own designs made it to London Fashion Week. The incredible Sarah Regensburger showcased her beautiful vegan collection with hats and headpieces made from me. And, over in Paris, Kyle Ho’s collection was grabbing attention at Fashion Week - again, with headpieces from me. Take a look at some of the pictures below…

Lace

It might pop up in fashion shows regularly but lace is going to be really big next year. In fact, lots of next season’s looks seemed to take inspiration from nightgowns - with lace inserts added to skirts, jumpers and dresses and paired with silky fabrics. Why not see if you can combine these fantastically classy fabrics and come up with a centrepiece creation yourself?

Love hearts

This is one trend I’m totally here for. We saw heart motifs on dresses, skirts, shoes and even bras throughout London Fashion Week in shades of pink and red. Romanticism is a great inspiration for the millinery world and makes a change from floral blooms in the spring and summer seasons.

Fuschia pink

With hearts being popular next year, it probably won’t surprise you that pink is leading the way in terms of colours. But, not just any old pink: Fuschia pink. Valentino’s whole collection was even devoted to the incredible colour and I can’t wait to get into the studio to design some pieces. What’s more, we saw a lot of clashing colours too. Think fuschia paired with red. And while this might have been a big no-no years ago, it’s all the rage now.

Hoods

It’s rare that we see a lot of focus on hats but hoods took the catwalk by surprise. Spotted in a number of collections, and not just loungewear, it seems this headwear style is becoming, even more, chicer as the seasons go by. Why not see if you can incorporate a sweeping yet sleek hood into your design? Or, you could combine two trends and make a popping fuschia pink hood to finish off your piece.

Fringing

I’m super excited about this trend. Seen in a number of shows including Stella McCartney’s, fringing is back with a bang. From skirts to dresses, sweaters to boots, it’ll only be a matter of time before we see fringing on hats too and I can’t wait to delve into it.

I’d love to hear about your favourite looks from this year’s Fashion Week. Drop me a message on social media and don’t forget to give me a follow if you want to stay up to date with my millinery business. It’s where you’ll also see any sneak peeks of my upcoming designs. In the meantime, my flagship store in London’s Oxo Tower is open for business so why not pop in? I’d love to chat about hat design, millinery inspiration and more so don’t be a stranger!
