Best hats to suit your face shape

At Katherine Elizabeth, we are so in love with head wear, we sometimes forget that many people feel that they do not have the face for a hat!

For us, we see a hat as the icing on a well turned out cake - the ultimate item that completes a carefully curated outfit. And we also truly believe that EVERYONE can pull off a hat. It’s simply a question of choosing the most flattering one for your beautiful face shape.

So, if you feel you need a little help or a little boost of confidence, here’s a few tips that will help you choose a knock out hat for you!

Working out your face shape

Knowing your face shape gives you the best chance of selecting your perfect hat - one that enhances your features, bringing total balance to your face. Invest some time in simply looking in the mirror and getting to know the contours and the shape of your face.

ROUND

If you think your face is more rounded, you should try experimenting with a fedora, trilby, or indeed a tall, decorative fascinator. These types of hats are fun, on-trend and add a certain height to your face. Our mantra has always been angles for angels!  And don’t forget a beanie set more to the back of your head will give you that WOW factor!

SQUARE

If you think you have a square face, why not experiment with cloche, bucket and bowler hats as well as a beanie or beret? In fact, you can wear any type of hat -  vintage or contemporary that adds a little roundness to your face shape.

OVAL

For those with an oval-shaped face, lucky you! You can spend hours experimenting with almost any type of hat - from floppy to bowler, cloche to beret, the hat world is truly your oyster! Think of the hours of fun you can have!

HEART

If your face is heart-shaped, you can also try out most hat types. It may be an idea to avoid wide brims and focus on cloche and bucket hats as they balance your features with striking effect! You’ll also be amazed at how good you look in a casual baseball cap or super thin knit beanie.

RECTANGULAR

And finally, for those with an oblong or rectangular face, check out cowboy and trapper hats. You will also look great in a sun hat or a straw hat - in fact, any hat with a wide brim.

Do remember that picking a hat should be fun. After all, in the words of Philip Treacy, ‘how a hat makes you feel is what a hat is all about’.

And here at Katherine Elizabeth, we are always happy to help.
